In the context of the civil war in Syria, which started in the spring of 2011, crime is rampant in the country. This is actually a multi-sided and even multi-level armed conflict, which escalated from a local confrontation into a large-scale conflict due to the intervention of all sorts of Islamic radicals, who received an order to destroy the Assad regime. There are certain preconditions in the country that facilitate the expansion of drug trafficking, which finances the opposition, but also has a negative impact on the image of official Damascus. Drug trafficking has become widespread in Syria, since the war helped dealers to step up their activities, and provided buyers with many excuses due to the deteriorating economic and social conditions due to the war. The Drugs Combating Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs claims that drug dealers use Syrian territory for transit, but reality refutes this assertion.
