The article examines the history of Southern or Iranian Azerbaijan,
pays attention to the place occupied by the Turks in the history of Iran.
The policy of Reza Shah Pahlavi aimed at assimilation of the Azerbaijanis of
Iran is also considered. In general, the Azerbaijanis were able to overcome
difficulties and fit into the political system of modern Iran.
