The article analyzes the history and current place of
Shia Islam in Azerbaijan, where the majority of the population is Shia.
The article provides a historical review of the formation of the main
Islamic institution of Azerbaijan, the Caucasian Moslems Board, and
discusses Azerbaijan’s relations with neighboring Iran, a major Shia
power.
