The permanent conflict between Palestinians and
Israelis in the southern regions of Lebanon forced local Shiites to create
their own organization to protect the interests of the residents of the
region. Today, the Shiite organization Hizbullah has become an
important factor in the socio-political landscape of Lebanon.
